Sometimes I start a painting with a goal in mind. At some point this painting was flagging so I flipped it upside down and tossed the original goal. Removing this bias freed me up to new opportunities. The result is one of my favorite paintings, perhaps only because the white shape just above center resembled an iceberg. The iceberg shape is dirty unlike the shiny white area that occupies the bottom two thirds of the composition. A mix of black colored paint churn in the sky. I think of the Titanic as a metaphor for Humankind’s relationship with Earth.
