The California Dreamin’ subjects are taken from photographs shot on trips romanticizing the natural forms of Southern California while utilizing the Green, Orange, and Purple Triad. I started this painting by loosely drawing out the composition with graphite. Gouache is then applied with varying degrees of transparency and opaqueness. Temperature and the introduction of colors outside the triad are a focus in this painting. A landscape space is portrayed by integrating layers of landscape elements in the composition.
