Sawdust was mixed in with the paint to create texture. In turn this allowed for paint applied with a palette knife to only hit the raised surface. This creates areas for underpainting to show through layers of paint. The limited palette keeps the painting in check although there is a wide range of oranges and blues. Figurative in nature there are not many clues left to the original figure, giving away to expression through mark making.
