This painting defies explanation. I’m not sure exactly what I did here initially but I started the work as a horizontal. I didn’t like the original composition, so I turned it on its side and repainted the subject. I purposely combined the second composition with the first. So, while this doesn’t look like my usual landscape or anything else from the series, the subject is still slaughtered bison, although at some point I felt like I was painting my organs, hence the title. For me, this painting is pivotal to the continuing development of my work. It’s where I began to pull away from the recognizable form while still describing it.
