Large rocks, eroded by wind and rain over millions of years are scattered along the shoreline northeast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Sculpted by nature, these statuesque outcroppings have unique characteristics and I have gained much inspiration from them. In a continuing series of work “Cabo Rocks” I try to represent them as individuals with character and a soul . Working with a variety of surfaces and media helps me describe their individuality.
Cabo Rocks 3 comes from a large solitary stone, approximately 6’ high, facing the ocean. It reminded me of the Moai statues on Easter Island. From its quirky shape, cracks and position I imagined a sad and lonely figure, on the beach in the night, gazing out onto the dark sea.
